Things I really hate in journalism, part 1 of 3,679

When "writers" start a sentence with said. Said chief executive Roy Rogers: "blah blah blah"
Why do people do this? Why? No-one talks like that in real life. Where do they get it from?

It's US style. Have a look at US media and you'll see it all the time. (Though why British writers adopt it is another question...)

Really? I was singing The Owl and the Pussycat 100 times to HackneyChild the other day and realised I don't mind it in poems. "Said the cat to the owl, you elegant fowl".

I am not ignoring your writing tag thing. It just needs some thought.
